Sculpture Park
Houghton's World-Class Sculpture Collection
Explore our unique collection of contemporary sculpture, both permanent and temporary, within the gardens and grounds of Houghton Hall. Recent restoration efforts have revived the 18th-century planting scheme on the West side of the house, providing a stunning backdrop for these masterpieces, many created specially for Houghton.

The Permanent Exhibits
The first to be commissioned, in 2000, was a ‘Skyspace’ by the American artist James Turrell, a sublime work, which often stuns visitors into silent awe. Since then sculptures by art world monoliths Richard Long, Anya Gallaccio, Stephen Cox, Jeppe Hein, Rachel Whiteread, and Phillip King have been added.

"A breathtaking spectacle..."
A huge place, plenty of space and just so enjoyable - I am not a particular art or sculpture fan but they are all so interesting - love how light and reflection is used -
The house and sculptures are outstanding with a wonderful collection of permanent sculptures and a new visiting collection every year.
The grounds had a superb collection of sculptures that we found fascinating, we could have spent much more time on some of the sculptures, particularly Skyscape. that somehow made the clouds and sky active and interesting.
The sculptures outside were varied, engaging and fun to find almost like a mini maze which again captured the interest of our little boy. Beautiful walled garden, deer in grounds, nice playground...
Wow… Houghton Hall. I went to see the Sean Scully sculptures but didn’t realise there were so many other brilliant pieces in the grounds. The grounds are beautifully kept
After touring the splendid and wonderfully maintained grounds we did a tour of the permanent sculptures and they were delightful. I was particularly taken with Waterflame by Jeppe Hein in the walled garden.
